All About Acupuncture

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a medical practice where tiny sterile needles are inserted at specific locations on the body, prompting a reduction in pain or other symptoms.  Acupuncture and related chinese medical theory have 'considerable antiquity',  having been  in a highly developed state 2500 years ago with origins dating back to 5000 years ago as verified by our archaeological evidence.

Acupuncturists are highly skilled but are so much more than skilled technicians.  Similar to  our Western physician colleagues in Massachusetts, our training includes a 4 academic year program which encompasses nearly 4000 hours of classroom and clinic study and a full year of clinical internship and rotation at major hospitals and clinics located throughout the metro Boston area. We are licensed by the Board of Medicine and take extensive medical board licensing exams for our medical license and national certification.

Serving 1/4-1/3 of the world’s population over time, interest in contemporary acupuncture use in the US is growing every day.

Who uses acupuncture?

...More than 3.2 million Americans each year (NCCAOM 2007)...and

People just like you tend to seek out acupuncture for themselves or their families for one of 3 reasons, regardless of their medical condition:

….YOU are frustrated with unresolved pain and other symptoms which your current care cannot help

….YOU prefer a proven therapy without drugs, side effects

….YOU are curious about the stress relieving and preventative health benefits of acupuncture

and... if you would prefer gentle care with one-on-one attention, then try acupuncture with Peri.

What was OLD is NEW again...

How can something that old still be useful to us today? Ideas and practice with such remarkable longevity and wide use persist today not simply because they are effective but moreover because they have also something unique to offer.

Chinese medicine is radically different because it actually includes the entirety of human experience,
studies the body through a different lens,  and therefore can treat multiple conditions at the same time...and also balance body, mind, and spirit.

In the modern day, acupuncture is unique because it works safely and effectively, comfortably, free from drugs and side effects. Powerful enough on its own, acupuncture also combines well with other treatments as a truly integrative medicine. It also works where other treatments have had little or no effect, making every acupuncturist a specialist in chronic, difficult to treat, or stubborn conditions.

While every acupuncturist studies to be a specialist in chronic and stubborn medical conditions, not every acupuncturist is highly trained in gentle and non-needle acupuncture... and Peri is.
